The Do Not Call Registry - Scammers are calling

Scammers have been making phone calls claiming to represent the National Do Not Call Registry and offer you the opportunity to register.

I received a few missed calls on my cell from the following phone number: (503) 563-0005.  I verified authenticity with the website after returning the call toll free from a land line.  These calls are not coming from the Registry or the Federal Trade Commission and you should not respond to these calls.

Here is what the government’s National Do Not Call Registry looks like.  You can register up to three phone numbers on line or call the number given and do so by phone.  Below is the process for registering on your computer, which I followed.  It is user friendly.

Scammers have been making phone calls claiming to represent the National Do Not Call Registry.  The calls claim to provide an opportunity to sign up for the Registry.  These calls are not coming from the Registry or the Federal Trade Commission, and you should not respond to these calls.
To add your number to the Registry you can call 888-382-1222 from the phone you wish to register, or go click on “Register a Phone Number” in the left column of this page.

Your registration will not expire.  Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became law in February 2008

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE NATIONAL DO NOT CALL REGISTRY
The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home.  Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days.  If they do, you can file a complaint at the Website.  You can register your home or mobile phone for free.

Follow the registration steps on the website.

If you share any of these telephone numbers with others, please remember that you are registering for everyone who uses these lines.

STEP THREE:  OPEN YOUR EMAIL AND CLICK ON LINK

This is a sample of a real e-mail.  It is one of the ones I got on my own registration(s), I registered 3 phone numbers:

You have submitted your phone number(s) for registration in the National Do Not Call Registry.  You will receive 3 emails from Register@donotcall.gov.  To complete your registration, you must open each email and click on the link provided.  Important: If you do not click on the link in each email within 72 hours, your phone number will not be registered.

Troubleshooting: If you don't get a "Registration Complete" message after clicking on the link, or the link does not work, use your "copy" and "paste" functions to insert the entire link in the email into the "Address" line on your Web browser.  Copy and paste the entire link - it's long.

You may print this page if you wish to retain a copy for your records.

I did three phone numbers and the entire process took about 10 minutes.
